- NGO
selection for next week: Every group member will take turn to briefly
introduce and explain a short summary of their chosen NGO. Each member
gets to ask questions to better understand each NGO's strength and
relevance. This will then followed by a group discussion to compare the
NGOs based on their alignment with our group's concept. Selected NGO will
be chosen collectively, either through voting or consensus.
Individual Report:
Sylvia Wong
NGO - The Lost Food Project (TLFP)
Reason : I chose this because it helps reduce
food waste and fight hunger in Malaysia. It’s meaningful to me because my
parents used to join the volunteering activities like this and I was inspired to get
involved too. TLFP is a local NGO that promotes fairness and helps those in
need.
Progress : I prepared 25 questions to make me more
understanding, now the progress is like (16/25)
Plan : I plan to gather more detailed information
about TLFP’s recent campaigns, community impact, and volunteer activities.
I will explore their official website and social media pages to look at photos,
videos and updates from the last two years.
Zachary Chieng
NGO - Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY)
Reason : I chose this NGO because I believe that cancer is a
looming threat and takes too many lives.
Progress : (17/20) questions
Plan : Listen to more interviews online, gather more information outside of main website itself.
Lee Yau Zu
NGO - Tzu Chi Malaysia
Reason : I chose this NGO because they have helped me
before, and I want to give all the children who struggle to go to school but
can't afford it, can give them a chance to go to school. Not only this Tzu
Chi focus areas include disaster relief, medical assistance, education,
environmental protection, and community volunteering.
Progress : got the 20 questions, but only 10 questions are
answered
Plan : do more research and watch their few video that
introduce the NGO
Angelina
NGO - Women's Aids Organisation (WAO)
Reason : I chose this NGO because, as a woman, I
feel a deep sense of responsibility to support and advocate for women's right.
WAO's unwavering commitment to combat gender-based violence and promote
equality strongly aligns with my personal values. Their efforts in offering
shelter, legal aid, and emotional support to survivors has demonstrate the real
change that advocacy can bring. I strongly believe that all women deserve to
live safely and with dignity. Thus, supporting WAO allows me to contribute to a
cause that empowers and protects women throughout the nation.
Progress : Currently prepare around 31
questions, but it is not finalise yet
Plan : I will do more research about the NGO and
explore more on different website and platforms. I will also read more articles
and news related to the NGO to gather more information.
Shree Sha Vaishnavi
NGO - World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
Reason : I have always had a soft spot for animals, so
supporting WWF felt like the right decision to me as they work to support the
wildlife and also protect endangered species
Progress : 11 questions drafted and answered, still drafting
more.
Plan : Research for more interviews and articles about WWF Malaysia
to draft more questions and gain more knowledge about the NGO.
Karin Tamura
NGO - Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM)
Reason : I became interested in helping animals at a young age, and I discovered SAFM, which rescues animals and also works to change society in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Progress : I created 23 questions and found 12 answers for them.
Plan : Research about SAFM's recent projects, and try to find more articles, and find the uniqueness of the organisation.
Adam Arief bin Hanizam
NGO - Pusat KOMAS
Reason : I chose Pusat KOMAS because it’s a well-established NGO that uses creative, grassroots-driven communications such as short films to empower marginalised communities and campaign for democracy and non-discrimination, particularly among the Orang Asli. Pusat KOMAS also leads impactful initiatives like the ICERD ratification campaign and publishes the Malaysia Racism Report, which addresses racial and religious tensions.
Side note: My choice was revised due to UNCHR not qualifying as a NGO
Progress : - 20/20 questions have been finalised
- Interview with Pusat KOMAS representative scheduled at 28/6/2025 3:00 p.m
Plan : Conduct interview mentioned at Progress* and finalise the research report
